Polka Dot Pottery

Recently my knit group got together at Polka Dot Pottery to paint yarn bowls. Since I didn’t really like any of the yarn bowls that were available (all too shallow and decorated with birds on the edge that I was certain would break off at the slightest provocation) so at the urging of Molly, I painted a skull.

Yup, a skull. A human skull. And there was really only one way to do it. I painted that skull in the manner traditional to the Mexican celebration of Dia de Los Muertos.

Pardon for the terrible lighting in the shop.

I named him Cervantes. Yes, I know Cervantes was Spanish, not Mexican. I do not care. I am sure that this skull has poetic and great dreams and as such he is Cervantes.

Here is a detail:

And this is how it came out once it was fired:

I love it! So fun!

Here is Molly painting her yarn bowl. It came out lovely too by the way.

    • Molly actually is the one who pointed it out to me. I bet you could find one at a pottery painting place in Seattle!
